Introduction

Treating the fascia can be transformative for chronic issues. It can help with lower back pain, hip pain, neck soreness, and headaches. There have been many cases over the years of other peculiar symptoms and it was rooted in tight fascia. For example chronic swelling.

There is a method to the madness. Sequencing of techniques is very important in regards to treatment in general. With the fascia it is of ultra importance. What do I mean by sequencing?

What it means is that I choose particular techniques in a certain order to produce an effect. For example, I there are techniques that can decrease swelling. But to move the fluid, I must first remove restrictions. These restrictions hinder the movement of fluid, such as tight fascia.

I am passionate about treating the fascia. The base of my work as a therapist is working on the fascia along with deep tissue massage. They go hand in hand. Find out why I feel so strongly about focusing on the fascia in this video! Watch now!

The fascia is the connective tissue that lies under the skin and wraps around bones, muscles, organs and nerves.

When it becomes tight and stuck it can cause pain and dysfunction.

Why do I focus on the fascia?

Many of our new patients who have had chronic pain and tightness have discovered the impact of treating the fascia.

A typical scenario is a patient seeks us for treatment after months and sometimes years of their pain and dysfunction. They’ve had Western medical tests and have been found to be negative. They have sought treatment for their issue. Generally, if the focus is on manual therapy, the emphasis is on the muscles. They have also been prescribed exercises. Having received this form of treatment, they are still encountering chronic pain and tightness.

Why is this so? The muscles can be tight but is it actually the root of the problem. Are the muscles just a product or symptom of something else that can be causing these chronic issues?

The answer is yes. The fascia can be a culprit for the discomfort the patient has been feeling.

Treating the fascia aggressively tends to produce wonderful results. I have noticed over the years that when I concentrate my treatments (of course this depends on individual patient issues) on the fascia I have seen these effects:

  1. The muscles relax a lot better and in a quicker amount of time. At times it can take a number of treatments to see significant changes.
  2. A significant reduction in pain and discomfort. When the fascia is less stuck, it reduces irritation in pain-sensitive structures. These structures include nerves, muscles, bone, tendons, and ligaments.
  3. A decrease in muscle spasm. This is because the nerves are less irritated from the looser connective tissues.
  4. As the fascia loosens it can also help with decreasing the amount of swelling on an area. For example if a patient has chronic swelling in the ankles, the fascia can restrict the movement of fluid. Treating the fascia can help reduce the swelling, along with other techniques.

There are a number of powerful reasons why I focus on the fascia. The video elaborates on these key points.

If you have had chronic pain and tightness and it’s been long-standing, it’s time to seek treatment to the fascia. This can be the solution to your issues. Contact us and we can have a conversation about treatment and a potential game plan for your specific case.
