Deep Tissue Massage

8 Questions: “About Deep Tissue Massage”. If you suffer from chronic pain and tightness, deep tissue massage is an avenue that can be a powerful tool. Here are 8 common questions about this style of treatment. Watch the video to learn more.

Deep Tissue Massage is more of a description of what I do versus an actual certification or credential.

What does this mean? This means that relative to other therapists I am more aggressive and very specific to problematic areas. It’s called Deep Tissue Massage because the techniques progressively and aggressively work into deeper muscle fibers and deeper muscles.

These areas can be the root of many chronic pain conditions and discomfort. One chooses this form of treatment because it accesses deep structures. It can stretch those problematic muscles that are the bane for your daily activities.

Typical Profile of a Deep Tissue Patient

There is a typical profile of a Deep Tissue Massage patient that we have observed over the years. There are some that just choose this style because they have already had experience with it and it’s their preference.

But most new patients have a certain profile:

  1. They have had chronic pan and tightness for weeks, months and sometimes years.
  2. They have seen doctors and specialists and had Western medical tests and were found to have negative findings.
  3. The patient has been to multiple therapies and therapists and have found that results were negligible. They are very experienced when it comes to treatments.
  4. Most of them have done their research. They have taken the time to educate themselves about their condition. They also understand the treatments that can help.

These patients are not your typical patient who calls the closest Massage clinic to have a 30 minute neck massage. These patients have chronic conditions they want to address. They would like to use Deep Tissue Massage as a possible solution.

Are the Treatments Painful?

You can guess that by the tone of this writing, that this form of treatment has a level of pain. How painful and uncomfortable can it get? This really depends on how tight an area is and for how long the person has had their condition.

We pride ourselves in the precision of our techniques. We focus on areas that need to be addressed. Typically, a massage treatment can last 60 minutes. The therapist usually allocates time for different body parts within those 60 minutes.

In a treatment problematic areas can be addressed for 30 minutes to close to an hour. The discomfort that one feels from the treatment comes not only from the area being addressed. It also arises from the actual length of time it is being addressed.

I always say to people that, “Deep Tissue Massage, ain’t for the feint of heart.” On our website, we offer a quick self-assessment. It helps you choose this style for your next treatment. We also ask patients that if they do refer someone, to please tell them the truth about this treatment. I emphasize to NOT sugar coat it and tell it like it is.
