Scars are part of the natural healing process. At times scars look unassuming and other times they can be large and thickened.
When scar tissue becomes very stuck it can cause chronic pain symptoms. Scars can cause pain both locally and also further away. Scars can visibly look very thin. But I know from experience that there is a greater story untold.. Once I feel the scar and try to move it, I will feel how deep it is. I can also sense how long and thick the scar feels under the skin.
Scars fascinate me and in strange way, when I find one on a patient, I get very excited. This is especially true with patients that have long standing chronic pain and discomfort.
When I do see a scar, my treatment focus changes. My mission becomes, to loosen that scar that I have found. Historically, I have found great changes in immobile scars that are treated aggressively.
Typically the treatments can be excruciating but has tremendous upside. Many who have suffered from chronic issues will bear the discomfort knowing that there are great outcomes on the horizon.
After treatment the patient will generally feel very sore and tender and this can last a few days. Eventually after a round of treatments (usually 4 treatments over 4 consecutive weeks), there usually is significant changes in symptoms.
